As Women Of the Wall, our central mission is to achieve the social and legal recognition of our right, as women, to wear prayer shawls, pray, and read from the Torah collectively and out loud at the Western Wall.

According to Israeli Law…

No religious ceremony shall be held in the Wall’s women’s section. That includes taking out and reading from a Torah, blowing the shofar (ram’s horn), wearing tallitot (prayer shawls) or tefillin (phylacteries). Violators shall be imprisoned for seven years.
